From studying Art and History of Art at college Simon has developed an eye for beauty in all its guises. From the obvious to the more subtle forms.<\/p>\n
We are confronted with beauty everyday and all around us. Beauty can be found in Nature, human form, clothing, architecture, expression, performance, music and art to name but a few. Some shapes and designs are more obvious and familiar, and even on display for consumption through advertising in its myriad of forms. Todays world seems to be one of ever evolving disconnection from Nature, each other and our inner selves. A plethora of technology, full of various forms of media is vying for our attention and time, in a fast paced hectic society.<\/p>\n
In the abstract work Simon presents, he invites a reconnection to ourselves. To view the works as a somatic experience that allows a slower more careful observation of what is present, to reveal a fuller picture, through both emotional and cognitive exploration. \u201cIt’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.\u201d Henry David Thoreau. Simons work is inspired by the exploration of our Inner and Outer worlds. He utilises the camera to create an entry point, from which to explore the relationship between the material and ephemeral and how this informs our reality. His process is meditative in form. Through his works he encourages a slowing down. He invites us to explore our place in the world, our Interconnectedness to one another and Life.<\/p>\n
Whether constructing 3D sculptures, creating liquid landscapes, or taking inspiration from the beauty within the Greek landscape. He utilises the camera to magnify what is present. Using various materials in studio, Simon creates pathways, vectors, tangents, shadow, colours, light, shadow and textures that take us on a journey, where Life\u2019s beauty and arts relationship with it are explored. He wishes to convey a sense of marvel at Natures limitless forms of beauty, that are forever manifested. When we simply take the time, and allow a space in which to observe and witness, the kaleidoscope of light and colour, that is Life\u2019s play, eternally resplendent.<\/p>\n
