RootsToWild

Brought to life by Nicolas Moulin

Architect by training, he worked across the world, from vibrant cities to remote, uncharted landscapes. These experiences honed him ability to read places, to sense their tensions between order and chaos, nature and architecture, permanence and transformation. Today, he divides his time between Athens and Paris, two territories that deepen his reflection on landscape and image-making. Black and white photography has become his language to translate this sensitivity to place. Each image resonates like a fragment of memory, where visible and invisible traces engage in a quiet dialogue with time.

Rootstowild unfolds as a cinematic journey, blending light, silence, and rhythm. At the edge of the poetic and the documentary, these photographs invite immersion in contemporary landscapes, revealing their hidden layers and fragile balances. This work speaks to curious eyes, passionate collectors, and institutions seeking a singular, contemplative exploration of place.

Four notes for Composing Rootstowild

  • Silence as Material
Each photograph arises where the world’s noise fades, seeking that suspended moment when silence becomes almost tangible.
  • Traces and Passage
The images reveal the visible and invisible marks left by time and human presence, fragile dialogues between memory and erasure.
  • Light as Narrative Voice
Light becomes the voice of the territory. In black and white, it shapes volumes, contrasts, and narratives where every element finds its role.
  • Composing as Storytelling
Each series unfolds like a film: scenes, pauses, shifts in rhythm and scale. A few images are enough to suggest an immersive, almost silent story.
