Description

Sofia-Maria Xenaki is a visual artist and performer. She was born in Chania Crete in 1991. Her interest in painting and dance began in childhood.  In 2009, she was first introduced, with a scholarship, to the Arts and Applied Arts Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from which she graduated with honors in 2015.  During the 2013–2014 academic year, she studied at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid through the Erasmus exchange program.

With a background in figurative painting, her influences range from the great masters of the Renaissance and Baroque to the art of the Far East. She proposes a form of art liberated from its mimetic function―art that stems from inspiration rather than observation. Her large-scale installations invite the audience to actively engage with the artwork. Her practice explores the intersection of painting and new media, combining figurative techniques with augmented reality technology. In collaboration with her sister, jewelry designer Iro Xenaki, she created her first jewelry collection, which led to the founding of Si―a brand established by Iro and Sofia-Maria Xenaki in 2025. Their refined art creations, which include silk scarves, sunglasses, and jewelry pieces, offer the opportunity to wear a piece of art.

Her work has been featured in four solo exhibitions, twenty-seven group exhibitions and international art fairs, as well as two book illustrations.
