Description

Inspired by the famous photograph of Justin Hofman, on National Geographic, depicting a seahorse swimming with a cotton swab, illustrating the problems the ocean face from human careless intervention. When i came across with this picture , in my eyes , if isolated the content with the image a visual surrealism could be found. If this image wasn’t real i could possibly had to invent it in order to make a hint about environmental issues. Working on some last projects with the element of pearl, as a structural element of my compositions, photographically and digitally (which also has natural background ) i created pearl by pearl, a mosaic of a family of seahorses, that need to be rescued as soon as possible, using symbolically a life jacket in which the body of this beautiful creature finds shelter, implying that the human intervention must be caring and loving to the nature and not harmful and dangerous. At the same time the cotton swab was very appealing to me, if taken out of the context of course. So i ended up using it like a frame made of pearls too, so that the hint can be made and the association towards the serious issues environment is facing, despite the beauty we humans enjoy…

Loula Leventi was born in Athens, where she lives and works as a photographer, visual artist and art instructor. The production of photographic imagery is central to her work, with emphasis on the surreal-narrative element. Through visual puns that have their own special metalanguage, she flirts with the conceptual dimension of the technical image. On 2015 she creates the brand ” A Totem für Elita ”, an artistic identity in a fashion world that uses the silk scarf as a canvas to unfold visual adventures using a range of mediums with focus on photography and collage, exploring the essence of personal storytelling with references and impact from world mythology and history in constant dialogue with contemporary pop culture. The outcome of this venture are silky illustrations worn by people, and spaces. She had participated in art and commercial group exhibitions in Greece and outside Greece. Ιn 2020 she had her first solo presentation in the art space of Flowering Rock (SowaBoston), US. Her last project, April 2024, concerns illustrations that shape the anniversary packaging of the Aktaion pastry shop on the island of Naxos, with special crew colorful macarons!
